Alan's Testimony
Alan: a very short, short story...
To narrate my story in detail can be overwhelming, for me that is. It has been such a long time to recall events that has taken a foothold in my life experience, and I am not growing any younger.
I come from a family of five, and to be the youngest I have grown accustomed to being pampered. I have the kind-hearted nature of my mother, and my dad's temper, unfortunately. But to be able to have religious freedom within the household is a blessing since my dad is an atheist, and my mom doesn't go to church because of my dad.
I came to know the Lord at the age of fifteen. After countless youth fellowships and bible studies I found myself reading Luke 23, Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom, in which He replied "truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise." And with that I prayed and acknowledged Him as my Lord and Saviour in baptism at the age of seventeen.
Six years ago I came to Canada on a whim. I applied to the University of Lethbridge and was accepted into the BofA program. However, I had trouble coping with stress and to be away from home was of no help either. From there my life took an unexpected turn and I lost my way and found myself in the dark.
I thought myself not worthy of salvation during my wandering years, and attempted to take my own life when I hit rock bottom. The years that followed finds me struggling to walk again, and this time towards His grace once more. Afterall, in Matthew 9, Jesus said "Those who are well, have no need of a physician, but those who are sick." and He came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.
Along the way I was introduced to this church by a friend of mine when I was searching for a church to go to. And here I am now standing before you, after all these years, and some dish washing, and friendly handshakes. I am truly blessed to be among this congregation of such warm hearts and great hospitality.
"For where two or three are gathered in the Lord's name, God is in our midst"
