So, it has been confirmed that this year's head shave for cancer will be held on the 27th of March this year at the university. I have grown out my hair since last summer and so far I am happy that I was able to grow it. The last time I did was in my university years, and it was fun. I have been wanting to get a few people to join me in this good cause. I was once a kappa, not of the Japanese legend, but of the kappa sigma fraternity. So it will be good to meet my fellow brothers once again.
A friend of mine and the family went to the states this family day weekend, and before they left they gave me a call and asked me to take care of the puppies they left behind. The first day was a Sunday, after church I went to work, and after work, I went over to check on them. Sam and Gust was pretty overwhelmed by my presence, Sam was too scared and he barely ate. Gust however was more familiar with me, so he was the cheerful one. Monday today I bought some snacks for them, Gust gobbled them up but Sam was still scared, but after a phone call from Verne he seems to have changed a little. Sam was more responsive when I called them over, and that was a good sign, I hope in the morning they will be happier to see me.
It feels good to be trusted again. The last time was... never mind... I think I'll just leave it at that. Crystal asked me if I wanted anything in return, but that trust was already more than I could have asked for.
Oh yeah, I almost forgot, that day after service, I had a pretty long chat with this elderly person sitting beside me, he asked me what do I do and I said I was a cook, after a while I quoted Gary's saying of how a person will have around 13 different jobs at the end of one's life and I said I am half way there, and he shared of the many jobs he had growing up and his last job was a teacher. He has carpentry under his belt so that is all good. I told him I am applying for my permanent residence and hopeful to get into red seal, and after that to work on my education degree, and he relayed his story of his teaching years, how he got there and how it all happened. It was pretty long so I will just get to the interesting part.
Since it was a small school, there was a time when he was able to visit the school kids and their parents, and there was this one particular kid that doesn't do well in school, and when he arrived in their driveway, the kid welcomed him warmly and told him he has been taking care of new calves in the farm, and he was able to recite their average growth rate, their dietary consumption by the weight and all that from memory.
Sometimes a teacher, or whoever in fact should not be too quick to judge of one's abilities. I remember of a story of how a factory owner or businessman who gave a talk on how to deal with students, and a teacher stood up and made a remark on how the factory would throw away the bad ingredients and use good ones instead, and relate them to the students they get. So in turn this is a profession that deals with human emotions, and it is going to be hard for me, since I am not so stable myself. But in time I suppose, I will always have cooking under me for safe keeping.
